Prof. Dr. Sidek bin
Baba has more than 35 years of experience in education and research.
Currently he is a professor at the Kulliyyah of Education, International
Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) since August 2002. Before serving at
the Kulliyyah of Education, he was the former Deputy Rector of IIUM cum
the Acting Dean for the Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and
Human Sciences from 1994 till 2002. He was also the Deputy Dean Academic
Affairs and later as the Dean of Matriculation Centre of the university
in 1992. Prior to joining IIUM, Prof. Dr. Sidek has become a teacher for
18 years and served as a lecturer in Aminuddin Baki Institute, Genting
Highlands for 5 years.
Since 1973 till
today, Prof. Dr. Sidek has extensively involved in daawah works all over
the Muslim communities. He delivered his talks and papers in USA, U.K.,
Canada, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, China, Japan, Uzbekistan, Syria, Indonesia,
Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Iran, and many other countries across the
globe. His subjects of interest include Islam, Human Resources
Development, Comparative Education and Civilisation, Philosophy, Policy
Analysis, Conflict Management, Strategic Management and Strategic
Thinking. He is also well known for developing the " I Theory" which
deals with IHSAN and INSAN in managing the self and the system.
He has also written
more than 200 working papers and produced a few books on knowledge and
education and articles in international and local journals. He was made
the Secretary to develop the curriculum for Islamic Civilisation Program
for Higher Education and the Centre for Asian Civilisation in the
University of Malaya. He is also a member of the Board for Institute for
Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM), Darul Hikmah College, Head for
NAFIS (Nadwah Persuratan Islam Malaysia), Executive Council for MUAFAKAT
MARA Malaysia and many others. Prof. Dr. Sidek was also a former member
of the Board for International Islamic College, Malacca Islamic College
and Darul Quran, Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM).
Born in Malacca in
1946, he started his early education in Malacca and later he joined
Teachers Training College in Tanjung Malim. He did his first Degree in
Malay Studies at the University of Malaya and Diploma in Islamic Studies
at the National University of Malaysia. Prof. Dr. Sidek completed his
Masters and Ph.D in the areas of Comparative Education and Policy
Studies in the United States of America.
